Bullying Stereotypes we're trying to Represent

One of the scenes I had in mind was that of a bully fighting our protagonist. I had so many famous bully scenes in mind. I found those and more in this playlist on movieclips, com

We Got A Song!!!

I am so excited to say that the lead singer of I Fight Dragons, Brian Mazzaferri, has responded to my email asking for permission to use the song "Pretend" with an enthusiastic yes! We're going to be using the first 30-60 seconds of it in the scene where our protagonist is getting out of bed and the title sequence that takes the viewer through the YouTube interface. Now that we have all the resources we need for that scene, we start filming Monday.

Concept Designs

The Following images are all scans of my sketchbook of many different concept designs for the mask, which will play a more or less central role in the film and film opening. I wanted to make it envoke emotion through big eyes, uniquely positioned eyebrows, and a big mouth. I also asked about 10 students at school which mask they preferred and the two most popular answers were The First two shown below

We plan to make one or more of these masks by Wednesday, start shooting then, and finish shooting by the following Wednesday

Media and YouTube Representation

Part of the inspiration for the idea of this film was from reading this article written by John Green on the evolution of YouTube over the years. YouTube isn't considered a "serious" medium by most people, which is an idea I completely disagree with, and this article talks about how in some ways its become more sophisticated and popular. The film's main character and his YouTube personality's popularity help portray both sides of Youtube and will hopefully challenge the bias that most people have against YouTube as a legitimate medium.

"The mix of the very real fame being enjoyed by YouTube creators and the very real money being thrown around by YouTube changed the culture"

"As YouTube became a more legitimate-looking path to success, more people started getting into it. Of course, it was never clear exactly what content would catch on, but LOTS did. YouTube became much bigger than that insular little world in which everyone knew each other (excluding Vevo) of the 2006 to 2010 era. This was a good thing, and it has been fascinating to watch,"

Decisions and Songs!

Through some research and consulting with classmates and teachers our group decided to follow through with the idea having to do with the popular YouTuber and young high schooler's morning. We have been experimenting with different ways to start the opening, and subtle ways to portray what the protagonist is going through and how he is connected to the popular YouTuber. I was thinking and researching various songs and bands, looking for lyrics that could help the audience connect to the protagonist. These are a few of the ones that seemed perfect to me, and if we do decide to include a song, hopefully we can get the rights to use these songs

Getting Ideas and Finding what we want

In the first couple days we have come up with six plot ideas, and we've marrowed it down to to two ideas that we want to stick with and develop further. The notes we have up until now on those two ideas summed up are as follow. The first idea involves a popular Senior and his dorky, clumsy little brother who just came into the same high school as his brother, and the shenanigans they get into. The second is about a kid who is a loser and bullied at school, but when he gets home he makes videos on YouTube under an alias, wearing a mask and he becomes extremely popular. The following are some of the introductions to movies that we hope to emulate.
